Trusted since 1975: partner for precision manufacturing support

Discover Gelec’s 50 years evolution, from surplus components to custom parts, offering trusted UK support, global sourcing and concept-to-production partnerships.

From surplus passive components to precision custom parts, how 50 years has changed Gelec.

In 1975, founder George English started the business re-selling surplus electronic components to UK manufacturers. Having identified an opportunity, George was a pioneer in sourcing from the rapidly expanding manufacturing base in Asia.

As Gelec approaches ECS 2025, the company is celebrating 50 years in business. Whilst most clients remain in electronics, the business has evolved. Today, Gelec still supplies standard parts such as Sunon fans but most revenue now comes from custom plastic, silicone and metal components—a strategic shift identified during a 1992/93 review soon after George’s son, Dave English, joined.

Today Gelec’s longstanding partnerships date back to the ‘70s and ‘80s, letting the company offer cost-effective solutions combined with UK and global stockholding. A focus on quality, project management and service enables Gelec to be a trusted advisor to customers when manufacturing in China.

In 2025, Gelec continues to evolve. A dynamic approach to sourcing means established roots with factories located in the Philippines, Vietnam and India. At this year’s ECS, Gelec is offering a streamlined concept-to-production partnership, ensuring reliable component supply and industry-leading support.
