TDK Corp. has extended its PLEC69B series of thin-film inductors for optical transceivers in AI data centers. The inductors are used for separating the data signal from the power in optical transceivers.

The new thin-film inductor is designed for bias-tee circuits in optical communication modules and power supply circuits in devices such as smartphones, TWS, and wearable devices. “Bias-tee circuits, which are used in these transceivers, are designed to superimpose signals and power on a single transmission line,” TDK said. “Because of the impedance characteristics, inductors like the PLEC69B separate the signal from the power in bias-tee circuits, preventing the signal from flowing into the power side.”
The new inductor claims the highest standard performance for a 10-μH inductor in the 1206 size, leveraging TDK’s proprietary metallic magnetic materials and structural designs. The inductor offers a wide frequency range of 10 MHz to 200 MHz, enabling signals to be separated from power with high impedance, which improves communication quality, TDK said.
Other key specifications include a DC resistance of 1.4 Ω (typ.), which is approximately 70% lower than similar products on the market, reducing power loss and heat generation, and a rated current (Isat) of 0.2 A that is 1.7 times higher than comparable products.
The PLEC69B series is housed in a 1.2 × 0.6 × 0.95-mm footprint and has an operating temperature range of -40°C to 125°C. Mass production of the new thin-film inductors started in August 2025.
