TDK launches film capacitors for resonant circuits

TDK's EPCOS B3264xH series of film capacitors.

TDK Corp. has introduced the EPCOS B3264xH series of double-sided metallized polypropylene film capacitors (MMKP) for advanced power electronics systems in automotive and industrial sectors. These film capacitors meet the requirements for high-frequency applications with high pulse stress of up to 6,500 V/µs, where traditional solutions may fall short, the company said.

The AEC-Q200-compliant EPCOS B3264xH series devices are well suited for resonant circuits, particularly the LLC topology. Applications include onboard chargers and DC/DC converters in xEVs, as well as in uninterruptible power supplies, industrial switch-mode power supplies, and electronic ballasts.

These capacitors feature a special dielectric system combining polypropylene and double-sided metallized PET film, delivering high pulse strength and exceptional current handling capabilities, the company said. They also offer high insulation resistance, low dissipation factor, and self-healing properties, resulting in a service life of 200,000 hours at 85°C and full rated voltage.

The film capacitors are rated for continuous operation from -55°C to 125°C, ensuring long-term reliability even under harsh environmental conditions. Key specifications include a capacitance range from 2.2 µF up to 470 µF and a rated DC voltage range from 630 V to 2,000 V.

The B3264xH capacitors are available in three lead-spacing variants—10 mm, 15 mm, and 22.5 mm. These variants enable integration into space-constrained circuit layouts.
