Kyocera AVX has released the new 9288-000 Series self-mating wire-to-wire (WTW) and wire-to-board (WTB) connectors for lighting and industrial applications. These new connectors enable easy and tool-free in-field wire terminations with high-integrity connections.

These two-piece connectors deliver WTW termination with two identical halves that mate to each other, which simplifies bill of materials by only requiring one part number, and WTB termination with one of those halves mating to an SMT version. Both halves of the 9288-000 Series hermaphroditic connectors feature orange or white glass-filled PBT insulators that feature plastic latches for good mechanical retention.
These connectors also feature the company’s poke-home contact technology for quick and tool-free in-field wire termination. It works by stripping and poking the wires to insert and twisting and pulling to extract. These poke-home contacts, made of phosphor bronze with lead-free tin-over-nickel plating, offer durable and high-integrity connections along with excellent electrical and mechanical performance, Kyocera AVX said.
The 9288-000 Series hermaphroditic WTW and WTB connectors are currently available with two to four contacts on a 5-mm pitch, compatible with 16–18 AWG solid or stranded wire. They are rated for 6 A (18 AWG) or 7 A (16 AWG), 600 VACRMS or the DC equivalent. Other key features include 20 mating cycles, three wire replacement cycles, and an extended operating temperature range from -40°C to 125°C.
The 9288-000 Series WTW and WTB connectors are UL approved and RoHS compliant. They are shipped in tape and reel or bulk packaging and can be ordered through Kyocera AVX’s distributors Mouser Electronics and DigiKey.
