Ex-i SFC3000 Flow Computer Targets Accurate Gas and Hydrocarbon Measurement

The SFC3000 flow computer from Ex-i Flow Measurement Ltd is designed for use in liquid hydrocarbon and gas measurement markets worldwide. Developed to support accurate flow calculation and system supervision, the unit forms the core of a configurable measurement platform suitable for a range of industrial applications.

Targeting gas networks and liquid measurement installations, the SFC3000 is presented as a versatile system capable of supporting billing accuracy while also enabling operators to monitor flow load across distribution infrastructure. The platform is positioned to address both measurement compliance and operational oversight requirements.

With support for multiple meter types, configurable I/O options, and integration into both simple and complex systems, the SFC3000 is described as adaptable to varying installation demands. The device also supports firmware updates to align with evolving measurement standards, reflecting ongoing product development since its initial release.

Design and Measurement Capabilities

Sussex based Ex-i Flow Measurement Ltd has introduced the Ex-i SFC3000 flow computer for liquid hydrocarbon and gas measurement applications worldwide. The unit is positioned as a flexible platform for measuring flow rates across liquid hydrocarbons, water, and petrochemical gases, with additional capability for CO2 emission measurements aimed at pollution monitoring and control.

According to Ex-i Flow Measurement, the SFC3000 connects to turbine meters to provide accurate gas flow measurement in networks, supporting billing for suppliers and enabling monitoring of network flow load. The same measurement approach is presented as useful for reliability of supply and maintaining energy supply security, particularly where operators need visibility of changing demand across a distribution system.

The press release describes the SFC3000 as configurable for a wide range of applications, operating either as a stand-alone single stream flow measurement system or within complex multi-stream installations. It can also operate as a standalone flow computer, a supervisory device, or as part of a larger system, with firmware updates referenced as a way to keep the device aligned with the latest measurement standards.

Applications, Standards and Industrial Integration

The SFC3000 flow computer is designed to conform to recognised industry standards including AGA, ISO and API measurement requirements for dry and wet natural gas, hydrocarbon liquids, nitrogen and water. Certification includes NMi approvals to WELMEC 7.2 and 8.8, OIML R117 and MID 2014/32/EU, positioning the device for regulated billing and custody transfer applications where compliance is required.

Beyond flow calculation, the system incorporates supervisory features such as alarm, event and data logging, printer report generation, network communication and station control functions. The unit can store logged data internally or via an optional SD card, with up to 2GB of additional memory available for alarm, audit and data records. Interfaces are provided to connect with common metering equipment and gas chromatographs, supporting integration into broader measurement and control environments.

The SFC3000 is housed in a half width 3U high 19 inch rack construction suitable for panel or chassis mounting, accommodating up to six user plug-in cards and up to five measurement streams within a single chassis. Operating temperature ranges vary depending on input type, with support for PRT, HART and 4-20mA inputs, and environmental ratings up to 90 percent non-condensing humidity. Ex-i Flow Measurement states that ongoing development of option boards and software features continues to extend the functionality of the platform.
