Waldom Electronics has published a new article, “What is the UN Global Compact – and is the Electronic Components Industry Ready to Step Up?”, calling attention to the importance of corporate sustainability in the electronic components sector and encouraging greater industry participation in the United Nations Global Compact.
The UN Global Compact, founded in 2000, is the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative, uniting businesses committed to aligning their strategies and operations with Ten Principles in human rights, labor, environment, and anti-corruption, while advancing the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
While major OEMs and global technology companies have increasingly joined the Compact, participation among electronic component distributors and suppliers remains limited. Waldom’s article emphasizes that joining the Compact is not only a reputational choice, but also a strategic move to strengthen accountability, transparency, and resilience in the global supply chain.
By joining the Compact, companies commit to annual public reporting through a Communication on Progress (CoP), which outlines how they are embedding the Ten Principles into business operations and contributing to the SDGs. Waldom sees this as an opportunity for the electronic components industry to take a stronger role in shaping global sustainability outcomes.
