Point2 and FIT partner on terabit-speed interconnects

Point2 Technology and Foxconn Interconnect Technology (FIT) are collaborating on a new type of multi-terabit cable interconnect to meet high-performance requirements for AI cluster scale-up in hyperscale data centers. The new solution will leverage Point2’s e-Tube technology for multi-terabit interconnectivity, which transmits data wirelessly using mmWave RF transmitter and receiver system-on-chips (SoC) through a dielectric waveguide.

The e-Tube RF transmission over plastic waveguide addresses the barriers of conventional copper and optical interconnects in hyperscalers by extending transmission reach and reducing power consumption and latency.

Point2 and FIT have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to collaborate on the commercialization of next-generation active RF cable (ARC) and near pluggable e-Tube (NPE) solutions. Under the partnership, they will develop MSA-compliant 1.6T and 3.2T pluggable ARCs based on Point2’s UltraWave RF transmitter and receiver SoCs, and co-develop NPE solutions.

Targeting AI cluster scalability, the collaboration will deliver a new category of high-performance interconnects for hyperscale data centers, Point2 said. The e-tube technology extends transmission reach 10× beyond copper at a similar cost, while delivering 3× lower power consumption, and 1,000× reduction in latency compared to optical interconnects, according to company.

Both companies expect their collaboration to redefine interconnects in data centers to scale AI workloads energy- and cost-effectively. They plan to jointly participate in industry trade shows, conferences, and co-marketing initiatives to accelerate the adoption and deployment of the e-Tube technology platform.
