Littelfuse adds high-precision TMR angle sensors

Littelfuse, Inc. has added two tunneling magnetoresistance (TMR)-based magnetic angle sensors to its magnetic sensor portfolio. The LF53466 and LF53464  TMR angle sensors deliver high-precision angular measurement in harsh environments with minimal thermal drift. Target markets include industrial automation and robotics, mobility and off-highway vehicles, consumer and smart devices, and precision control systems.

Leveraging TMR technology in a dual push-pull Wheatstone bridge configuration for enhanced magnetic sensitivity, each sensor features four high-sensitivity sensing elements, which enable accurate angle detection along the X and Y axes. Other key features include high precision 0-to-360-degree angle measurement, low angle error,  a wide supply voltage range, and a differential output.

These magnetic angle sensors offer an alternative to Hall-effect devices by providing superior thermal stability, wide supply voltage compatibility, and enhanced measurement precision, Littelfuse said.

The LF53466 is housed in a standard TSSOP8 package, providing precision angle sensing with an error of less than 0.8° in the 200–800 Gs magnetic field range. It is suited for industrial and automotive applications that benefit from stronger mechanical solder joints and ease of inspection, the company said. Applications include steering wheel angle sensors, pedal position sensors, and contactless potentiometers.

In comparison, the LF53464 is available in a compact LGA8L package and achieves an angle error below 0.6°, along with a wider airgap capability and compatibility with smaller magnets. It is suited for space-constrained applications such as rotary encoders, knob and valve position sensing, and consumer devices, including power tools and appliances.

Both sensors are currently available in tape-and-reel format in quantities of 3,000 for the LF53466 and 4,000 for the LF53464. Samples are available through Littelfuse’s authorized distributors.
