Highly integrated SoC for DC, BLDC and stepper motors: HVC 5x motor driver from TDK Micronas – now available from Rutronik

With the HVC 5222D, TDK Micronas is launching a new generation of compact embedded motor controllers. The highly integrated SoC combines a 32-bit ARM® Cortex®-M3 core, LIN transceiver, ADC, PWM, DAC and motor driver in a single device. It supports currents up to 2 A (DC) or 1 A (BLDC/stepper), operates in a temperature range from -40 °C to +125 °C, and meets the AEC-Q100 Grade 1 standard. Rutronik thus offers a highly efficient, robust, and cost-effective solution for compact automotive and industrial applications. The HVC 5x motor driver from TDK Micronas is available at www.rutronik24.com.

The HVC 5222D is part of the new HVC 5x family from TDK Micronas – the further development of the successful HVC 4x series. Designed for maximum integration with minimum space requirements, the controller impresses with its compact design in a QFN-24 package (5 × 5 mm), lower system costs and fewer external components.

With 32 KB flash, 4 KB SRAM and 2 KB EEPROM, developers have access to expanded memory for more complex motor control applications. The integrated half-bridges enable direct drive of DC, BLDC and stepper motors, controlled via Hall sensors or BEMF (back EMF) signal evaluation. A 12-bit ADC resolution, 16-bit timers, PWM generators, differential inputs and an SPI interface open up additional degrees of freedom in application design.

In addition, the SoC has integrated protection mechanisms such as current limiting, overtemperature protection and bridge driver diagnostic functions. The controller operates in a voltage range from 6 V to 18 V DC (transient up to 40 V) and provides a 3.3 V auxiliary voltage for peripheral devices. Thanks to LIN-ISO compliance, the device can be easily integrated into existing vehicle networks.

The combination of high power density, reliability and programmability makes the HVC 5222D ideal for compact actuators, motor controls and smart actuators in automotive, HVAC and industrial applications.
