10-GS/s AWGs deliver high bandwidth and resolution

Spectrum Instrumentation's M5i series arbitrary waveform generators (AWGs).

Four new arbitrary waveform generators (AWGs) from Spectrum Instrumentation deliver up to 10 GS/s output rate, 16-bit resolution, and 3.9-GHz bandwidth, representing the company’s first entry into the high-bandwidth space. These high-performance test instruments, available in PCIe and LXI/Ethernet form factor, target demanding RF and microwave signal generation applications such as wireless communications, radar system development, quantum research, and aerospace testing.

Key features of the new flagship M5i series AWGs include availability as PCIe cards with up to 10 GB/s streaming for ultra-fast signal generation, 16-bit vertical resolution for high signal fidelity, and standalone NETBOX units with easy control via Ethernet that connect directly to laptops, PCs, or corporate networks.

The AWGs also provide analog bandwidths to 3.9 GHz, delivering true-to-life reproduction of wideband RF and microwave signals; multi-channel synchronization that addresses complex signal simulations across multiple outputs, and up to 8-GSample memory per channel for waveform generation flexibility. They also offer single-ended or differential outputs with up to 4-V output swings.

Together, these features are suited for testing of 5G and 6G communication standards, simulating radar echoes, or generating waveforms for experimental physics and quantum systems, all of which demand high signal quality over wide bandwidths.

The AWGs are supported by Spectrum’s software suite, which includes drivers for Windows and Linux, programming examples for languages like C/C++, Python, MATLAB, and LabVIEW, and Spectrum’s SBench 6 software for interactive operation. Also included is a five-year warranty, free lifetime software/firmware updates, and direct support from Spectrum’s design engineers.
